"In 1889 an act of Parliament was passed authorising construction of the Beverley and East Riding Railway.
This was just one of several ambitious schemes to build railways in Holderness.
The BAER started from a junction with the NER's Hull to Scarborough Line north of Beverley Station, before bridging the River Hull and meandering north eastwards.
It terminated in the corner of a field between the villages of Beeford and North Frodingham.
Perhaps, fortunately the BAER was never built.

In August 2011 we visited Hull MRS's mini show at Paragon Station, where Jennifer won a Blue Highlander Hornby train-set on the raffle.
One of my colleagues in Hull MRS challenged us, "If you build a layout with that, we'll show it."
We accepted the challenge and started planning our layout.
This is our first layout to go much beyond plans on paper, I have plenty of those!

Jenswell represents a market day halt serving nearby farms somewhere on the Beverley and East Riding Railway.
We have borrowed features from local railways and adapted card kit buildings to suit.

Track is mostly OO settrack. Two points give us a classic Inglenook shunting layout off the main line.
We have rather more varied traffic than the original railway was ever likely to see.
Motive power is a variety of small tank engines. The lack of a turntable at Beeford discourages the use of tender locos.
We have assumed that the BAER was rapidly if reluctantly absorbed into the NER.
So quickly that the owners didn't have time to repaint their second-hand Caledonian loco.
We use DC and DCC to drive the trains, swapping controllers to suit. Point control is by wire in tube.

We operate from the front of the layout so we can talk with people.
Please feel free to offer comments or ask any questions."
