ALDERGRGROVE Scale: 2mm - 1ft. Gauge 9mm ('N') by Martin Austin

Size: 8ft x 15inches (2.4m x 0.4m) (plus operator space), Operators: Two, Transport: One car.

Aldergrove is what could have been a typical small-town station. Formerly a through station Aldergrove became a terminus after the line further on was closed under the axe of Dr. Beeching, also closed was a small branch line leading from here to the coast, this is now a public footpath. The station is served by DMU’s on local services and loco hauled trains with coaches separated from London trains at a mainline station further down the line. Local freight also comes into the town and is shunted into the small factory and warehouse. The town also has a small loco shed and fuelling point which remains from busier times.

The Layout itself 8 feet long by 15 inches wide and modelled in N Gauge. It fits easily into a large family car for transportation. Aldergrove is DCC operated using the NCE Powercab system. Several locomotives are equipped with sound and more will be converted soon.

Trackwork is all Peco streamline with a mixture of Peco and Seep point motors. Buildings are Metcalfe kits with a few Bachmann Scenecraft in places. The road bridge in the centre of the layout is totally scratchbuilt from card. Rolling stock is mostly Bachmann (Farish) although there are a few bits of Dapol too. Stock is fitted with Dapol easi-shunt couplings with magnets buried in the track at specific locations to allow hands free uncoupling and shunting.  Road vehicles are from Oxford Diecast.
